When you're the head of a credit card company which likes to boast their security credentials, how much pressure is there to be security conscious? Not enough apparently...

Visa's U.S. website includes a section of security tips, with such common-sense gems as 'Don't leave your wallet unattended' and 'Make sure you retrieve your card before you leave the store'.

Which makes the following story out of New York last week particularly hilarious.

Joseph Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of Visa Incorporated, flew from San Francisco, Visa's headquarters, to a Goldman Sachs financial services conference in New York last Thursday morning.

Saunders' wallet did not accompany him.

"I'm supposed to start off, and say that I'm very happy to be here, and I guess I am. But it's 4:15 in the morning as far as I'm concerned, and I lost my wallet on the way here," Saunders said. "It's rather embarrassing when somebody steals my credit cards."

Saunders got a laugh from the crowd, but did not elaborate and Visa declined to comment further.
