Citibank Clear Platinum: Platinum by name, not by nature. Confusion abounds.
I don't know. I just...I don't know. Like me, you're probably asking yourself why Citibank decided to name this card the Citibank Clear Platinum. Was there some confusion in the marketing department? Were they not aware of the connotations of labelling a card platinum? Did they not consider the inevitable confusion of labelling what is clearly a basic, entry level card, a 'Platinum'?
Let's be clear. This is not a platinum card and I daresay Citibank are aware of that. After all, this is the group that brought us the Citibank Emirates Platinum, which offers a complimentary chauffeur.
That doesn't mean this card is bad. It offers 11.49% on purchases, free purchase cover, international travel insurance and extended warranty (all features usually found on gold cards or above), 55 days interest free and a $99 annual fee.
Citibank are also currently offering 0% for six months on balances transferred.
In the negative, it does has a very high cash rate (21.24%), but that (and the confusing title) is the only detractor from an otherwise great card.
Bottom-line: The Citibank Clear Platinum is a very good low-to-mid-range card, offering some great services for a very low price. Just make sure you never accidently get cash out.
