Credit card annual fee

Hi, I recently applied a Citibank clear platinum visa card and got the card a few days ago but have not activated yet. Today I received a statement saying annual fee has been charged, just wondering can the bank charge annual fee even the card is inactive?

Hi Roy,
As far as I'm aware, the bank is entitled to charge the annual fee. 'Activating' the card is really more of a security feature designed to prevent dumpster diving.
