Using my bank card overseas

« Back to question board
I'm going overseas and want to know if I can use my bank card or if I need to get a credit card.
Hi, thanks for your question.

It depends on the type of bank card you have. I can only speak from personal experience with an ANZ Access card. I was able to use it overseas in some European countries at ATMs which displayed the Maestro logo.

You should check with your bank before you leave and also consider options such as cash passports and travel cards.

Our guide on choosing a travel credit card covers some of these issues.

I hope that answered your question.
You stated the following on your page about Cash Passports: - The great thing about a cash passport is you lock in your interest rate when you put cash on your card, so you don't need to worry about the Australian dollar losing value while you're overseas.

Don't you mean "exchange rate" rather than "interest rate"?
Whoops, yep. Thanks Jack.

I've got interest rates on the brain. :)
