AMEX Blue Sky vs Gold Ascent

« Back to question board
I'm looking for a zero annual fee credit card and like both the AMEX Blue Sky and AMEX Gold Ascent cards due to the rewards programs. I see that Blue Sky earns 1 point/$ and Gold Ascent 0.5 points/$. What are the main differences between these two rewards programs? Which would you recommend for someone who does not fly often.
Hi Shahid,

It's difficult to get clear information from the American Express website.

It seems that the Gold Ascent, although having a lower earn rate, operates on the 'Ascent' rewards program which offers a broader range of redemption options including travel, shopping and entertainment.

The Blue Sky seems to only permit redemption on flights.

As someone who doesn't fly often, you may get better value from the Ascent. However, the higher redemption rate on the Blue Sky may mean that when you do fly, you'll be able to use your points to pay for your ticket (or at least receieve a discount).

Hope this helps.

Cameron
the The Blue Sky is better now it also offers a broader range of redemption options including travel, shopping and entertainment and comes with travel insurance
