Charge card vs Credit Card

« Back to question board
What is the difference between a charge card and a credit card??? And as i am going overseas (USA) and want to apply for another card for emergencies and wondered if a amex is better than a Visa?? Any advice?
Hi Monica,

Charge cards are required to be paid in full each month, while credit cards allow you to carry a balance over to the next month. There's an article on this in the 'Articles' section of this site (just search 'charge').

American Express offer both charge and credit cards.

Generally, I'd suggest that if you already have a Visa, get an Amex and vice-versa, in case you come across somewhere which only accepts one and not the other.

Best of luck.
